On opening day April 7th, the Cultural Arts Center hosts the Wool 'n Wood Show, presented by The Cape Fear Rug Hookers and The Cape Fear Woodcarvers. The walls are a kaleidoscope of colorful hand hooked rugs, while hand carved items from birds to mini-houses are on display. Both groups will demonstrate techniques and, admission is free. A stunning collection of outstanding creativity and talent. If you appreciate art, you'll love the show.

Cindy Rhodes will play the hammered dulcimer for your enjoyment. Cindy performs her original music on the front lawn right in the middle of the market. Cindy, a generous artist, is always ready to describe the origin and workings of this lovely sounding instrument, as well as a mini-lesson. CD's are available.

Betsy's Bunny Buddies
Betsy Leonard of Wilmington, a member of the Cape Fear Rug Hookers craft guild, created these two bunny buddy rugs for her grandchildren. Each one was designed by Beverly Conway of Vermont, stylized and hand hooked by Betsy. They'll soon be framed and hang in her grandchildren's bedrooms.

Great Spring Classes Starting in February

It seems as though the staff has been hibernating since the week before Christmas. Actually, the plantation is just about ready to open on February 1st for it's 30th season. That's right, Poplar Grove Plantation has been open to the public for three decades! A special celebration is in the works and we'll let you know about it soon.
In the meantime, we're starting off 2010 with a wonderful schedule and selection of classes.
